Phase separation of borosilicate glass containing phosphorus

Abstract: Sodium borosilicate glasses containing P 2 O 5 and Al 2 O 3 were prepared, and the behavior of phosphorus associated with the phase separation and the effect of Al 2 O 3 addition have been investigated. After the heat treatment, phase separation by spinodal decomposition was observed in the all samples. In the Al 2 O 3 -free glasses, phosphorus was preferentially distributed into B 2 O 3 -rich glass phase after the phase separation. With increasing Al 2 O 3 content, the amount of phosphorus distributed into Si… Show more

“…The final product contains sufficiently low heavy metal content, and can be used as conventional chemical P fertilizer. While P recovery from iron slag is still a developing methodology [14], is it hoped that iron slag will be an important P resource because of its large P budget.…”

“…In particular, Japan completely depends on imports for phosphorous resources, and hence phase separation is expected to be used as a phosphorous recycling method. The author's research group is currently investigating the distribution of phosphorous during the phase separation of borosilicate glasses, and it is revealed that phosphorous distribution is greatly influenced by Al 24) and Ti. 25) It is consequently suggested that the P, Ti and Al distributions shown in Fig.…”

“…In the previous study, 4) phosphorus distribution associated with phase separation was investigated by using a simplified ternary Na 2 OB 2 O 3 SiO 2 system, and the effect of Al 2 O 3 addition was also examined. As the result, it was revealed that Al 2 O 3 promoted distribution of phosphorus into SiO 2 -rich phase.…”
