Phenazine from Pseudomonas aeruginosa UPMP3 induced the host resistance in oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.)-Ganoderma boninense pathosystem

Abstract: Pseudomonas aeruginosa developed its biocontrol agent property through the production of antifungal derivatives, with the phenazine among them. In this study, the applications of crude phenazine synthesized by Pseudomonas aeruginosa UPMP3 and hexaconazole were comparatively evaluated for their effectiveness to suppress basal stem rot infection in artificially G. boninense-challenged oil palm seedlings. A glasshouse experiment under the randomized completely block design was set with the following treatments: n… Show more

“…In addition to P. fluorescens , the combined inoculation of P. aeruginosa and AMF also had better biocontrol effects. Inoculation with two G. intraradice and G. clarum alone can reduce the severity of Elaeis guineensis base rot by 15.0–17.0%, and combined inoculation of two AMFs with P. aeruginosa can reduce the severity by 57.0–80.0% [ 49 ].…”

“…Serratia secretes compounds related to the control of pathogens through suppressed growth, survival, or replication of viruses, bacteria, fungi, and protozoa and that promote the induction of systematic resistance in plants [ 119 , 125 , 126 , 127 ]. Finally, we found a pathway related to the synthesis of phenazines, natural bacterial antibiotics that suppress competitors in polymicrobial environments and protect the host against diseases [ 128 , 129 ]. Interestingly, all these pathways described for Serratia were decreased in ZIKV infection.…”

“…RWBs were soaked in distilled water for 24 h and then autoclaved at 121 °C for 20 min. For large-scale inoculum preparation, the primary culture was inoculated on MEA plates to obtain secondary cultures . MEA (100 mL) was applied evenly over the surfaces of each RWB, which were autoclaved and cooled to room temperature (28 ± 2 °C).…”
