Phenological characterisation, thermal requirement and production in the selection of pitanga genotypes in semiarid conditions

Abstract: Pitanga (Eugenia uniflora L.) cultivation has increased rapidly around the world, but most seedlings come from sexual propagation and thus present high genetic variability and respond differently to environmental conditions. This work studied the phenology and thermal requirement of pitanga genotypes in the Brazilian semiarid. Forty‐eight genotypes were evaluated in 2017 and 2018 in an experimental farm at the Federal Rural University of Semiarid, Mossoró, Brazil. The time and thermal requirement for phenologi… Show more

“…Thus, rapid temperature increases in the period of growth and reproductive development may lead to early or delayed flowering. This has been documented to occur in sugar apple grown under semiarid and tropical savanna conditions (Alves Rodrigues et al, 2018;Moura et al, 2020Moura et al, , 2019a.…”

“…These substantial seasonal variations in growth, development, and physiological attributes may vary for each species Chagas et al (2022) Determining the preliminary performance of... and cultivar within a species (or hybrid), as reported for atemoya (Olesen & Muldoon 2012) and sugar-apple (Alves Rodrigues et al 2018;Liu et al 2015;Moura et al 2019b). Therefore, the duration of each phenological stage of the species will differ depending on some factors, such as genotype, edaphoclimatic conditions and crop management (Moura et al, 2020). The identification of the phenological phases for each cultivar and their duration may allow for manipulating these crops during favorable and unfavorable periods of the vegetative and reproductive cycles (Moura et al, 2020(Moura et al, , 2019a.…”

“…Pruning management in fruit species is essential for crop development as it may stimulate production and accelerate or anticipate harvest depending on the climatic conditions of the cultivation area (3,6,16). However, studies on the ideal pruning intensity of fig branches are still incipient, and this parameter is hypothesized to interfere with fig development and production.…”
