Phenomenology: methodological applications in research on cities

Abstract

Despite the frequent use of phenomenology as a methodology in research on Geography, Anthropology, Sociology, Architecture and Urbanism, there is still a preambular use of the terminology "urban phenomenology" and what it represents in theoretical-methodological terms. So, this article seeks to discuss the use of phenomenology in research on urban spaces through a literature review that covered articles published by Brazilian researchers from the year 2000 onwards. It was observed that the researches are based on the same philosophical bases and that they explore them more regularly. Thus, it is considered that the explanations of methodological procedures for data collection and analysis are infrequent and represent a gap in research with phenomenological approaches, but, above all, an inevitable debate.
