Phenotype and Genotype of Pancreatic Cancer Cell Lines

Abstract: The dismal prognosis of pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PA) is due in part due to a lack of molecular information regarding disease development. Established cell lines remain a useful tool for investigating these molecular events. Here we present a review of available information on commonly used PA cell lines as a resource to help investigators select the cell lines most appropriate for their particular research needs. Information on clinical history, in vitro and in vivo growth characteristics, phenotypic charact… Show more

“…Because MIST1 is restricted to professional secretory cells (e.g., acinar cells), we asked if nonsecretory cells could similarly induce Mist1 expression upon ER stress. For these studies, we utilized a number of human pancreatic ductal cell lines that normally do not express Mist1 (14,20,25,40,41). In all cases, treatment of cells with thapsigargin led to induction of Xbp1s and Mist1 transcripts ( Fig.…”

“…To assess whether the stage of differentiation of other tumor types also correlated with their sensitivity to NK cell-mediated lysis, five pancreatic lines at different stages of differentiation were selected based on a number of criteria including sphere formation and immunohistochemical analysis (Sipos, 2003;Deer, 2010). In these studies , Panc-1 and MP-2 (two poorly-differentiated), BXPC3 and HPAF (two moderatelydifferentiated), and CAPAN-1 (a well-differentiated) pancreatic tumor cell lines were co-cultured with the NK cells and NKmediated cytotoxicity was determined in a 4-h [ 51 Cr] release assay.…”

“…102 PANC-1 and BxPC-3 are derived from a primary tumour, and AsPC-1 originates from ascites (metastasis). 103 Each cell line has an epithelial morphology and the adherent cells form a monolayer in culture. As can be seen in Fig.…”
