Phenotypic and genotypic characterizations of Escherichia coli Isolated from veal meats and butchers’ shops in Mosul city, Iraq

Abstract: Foodborne pathogens bacteria can cause various diseases and death worldwide. Escherichia coli is the most crucial microorganism transmitted through meat and its products. Pathogenic E. coli is one of the major groups that can produce the Stx1 and Stx2 toxins. The present study aims to isolate and identify the E. coli bacteria using the classical methods, and to detect the specific-species uidA gene, and Stx1 and Stx2 genes using the PCR assay. Five hundred four samples were collected randomly from meats and di… Show more

“…Thus, E. coli strains resistant to antimicrobial drugs are widespread in the production environment of dairy enterprises in Kazakhstan and can seriously threaten public health because such bacteria can carry and transmit genes encoding determinants of antibiotic resistance [ 46 ]. Molecular studies of E. coli isolates in the framework of this work confirmed the presence of eaeA virulence and resistance genes to β-lactam, sulfonamide, and quinolone groups.…”

“…The fifth dilution was taken and a sensitivity test was performed on Mueller-Hinton Agar medium using the drilling method and injecting a ratio of (0.5) into the hole and after incubating in the incubator at 37 degrees Celsius for 24 hours (Figure 3). The test result was read by reading the zoom with a result of 16 mm (Salman et al, 2022;Othman et al, 2023).…”

“…In addition, E. coli were isolated from fish found in coasts contaminated with sewage water (3). Also, E. coli was isolated from different animals such as cows and their environment (4) and from meat and the butchers' shop (5). Freshwater fish may contaminate with various types of pathogenic microorganisms from the various sources, which are usually either primary sources through the presence of these fishes in the aquatic environment or secondary sources during the harvesting of these fishes, as well as from transportation, marketing and storage, which lead to the pollution of these fishes and make them unsuitable for human consumption or to be carriers of some pathogens to humans (6).…”
