Phenoxo-bridged symmetrical homobinuclear complexes derived from an “end-off” compartmental ligand, 2,6- bis [5′-chloro-3′-phenyl- 1H -indole-2′-carboxamidyliminomethyl]-4-methylphenol

Abstract: A compartment ligand 2,6-bis[5 0 -chloro-3 0 -phenyl-1H-indole-2 0 -carboxamidyliminomethyl]-4-methylphenol was prepared and homobinuclear phenol-bridged Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Zn(II), Cd(II), Hg(II), Fe(III), and Mn(II) complexes have been prepared by the template method using the precursors 2,6-diformyl-4-methylphenol, 5-chloro-3-phenylindole-2-carbohydrazide and metal chlorides in 1 : 2 : 2 ratio, respectively. The complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, conductivity measurements, magnetic susc… Show more

“…The development of new metal-containing antioxidant agents have been reported by several research groups [22]. Based on these findings and in continuation of our research work on coordination chemistry [23–28], we describe the synthesis of a new Schiff base and its metal complexes with 5-chloro-3-phenyl-1 H -indole-2-carboxyhydrazide fused to 3-formyl-2-hydroxy-1 H -quinoline with the aim of obtaining more potent pharmacological active compounds. …”

“…In view of these findings and in continuation of our research work on coordination chemistry [ 11 – 16 ], we are reporting herewith the synthesis, characterization, and antimicrobial activity of Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Zn(II), Hg(II), Mn(II), and Fe(III) complexes of 3-chloro- N ′-[(1 E )-(2-hydroxy phenyl)methylene]-6-methoxy-1-benzothiophene-2-carbohydrazide (HL) ( Figure 9 ) in this communication (H refers to phenolate).…”

“…In the IR spectra of the complexes, medium intensity weak bands at 3366–3295, 3212–3189, and 3175–3089 cm −1 were due to quinoline NH, amide NH, and NH attached to thiazole moiety, respectively, which appeared at about the same region as in the case of ligand indicating their noninvolvement in coordination. The shift of amide carbonyl ν (C=O) to lower frequency side about 55–32 cm −1 which appeared in the region 1656–1633 cm −1 in all the complexes confirms the coordination of oxygen atom of amide C=O with the metal ions as such without undergoing enolization [ 40 ]. The IR spectrum of all the complexes showed a shift of the azomethine ν (C=N) band towards lower frequency side about 67–27 cm −1 and appeared in the region 1593–1553 cm −1 when compared with the free ligand indicating the coordination of the azomethine nitrogen to the metal ions [ 41 ].…”
