“…Forsythiaside A, phillyrin, and phillygenin have been shown to have significant anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities in previous studies, but there are few studies on their comparison of effects ( Yuan et al, 2014 ; Ma et al, 2019 ; Du et al, 2020 ; Zhou et al, 2021a ; Tian et al, 2021 ). In this study, correlation analysis demonstrated that phillygenin and phillyrin, which belong to lignans, may be the main anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compounds of FF.…”

“…Since Kitagawa et al (1984) first isolated phillygenin from Forsythia leaves, pharmacological experiments demonstrated that phillygenin can effectively eliminate free radicals (Hung et al, 2012) and showed striking anti‐inflammatory activities. Lim and Zhou reported that phillygenin has anti‐inflammatory activity through inhibiting nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) production and nuclear factor‐κB (NF‐κB) activation by RAW 264.7 cells induced by lipopolysaccharide (Lim et al, 2008; Zhou et al, 2021). Liu et al showed that phillygenin reduced the inflammation by inhibiting Akt activation in BEAS‐2B cells (Liu et al, 2017).…”

“…The membranes were incubated overnight with primary antibodies to identify the target proteins specific for IκB, p65 NF-κB, p38 MAPK and GAPDH at 4 °C. After three 5-min washes with TBS-T solution, the membrane was incubated for 1 h at room temperature with HRP-linked anti-mouse, anti-rabbit, or anti-goat immunoglobulin G secondary antibodies [38,39]. The detection was performed using enhanced chemiluminescence (ECL), ChemiDOC (Davinch-K, Davinch-Invivotm) imaging system.…”
