Phosphorus‐Selenium Heterocycles from the Tetraphospholane (PhP)4CH2

Abstract: Two new heterocyclic and one acyclic species were prepared by reduction/deselenation of the five‐membered heterocycle PhP(Se)CH2PhP(Se)Se2 (containing a PCPSe2 ring sequence). Deselenation with Me3SiCN led to the four‐membered heterocycle PhP(Se)CH2PPh(Se)Se (containing a PCPSe ring sequence), whereas reaction with Bu3P afforded the five‐membered heterocycle PhP(Se)CH2PhP(Se)SePPh (ring sequence PCPSeP) and reduction with K metal afforded the dipotassium salt of methylene‐bis(diselenophenylphosphinic) acid [K2… Show more

“…[17] The synthesis of mixed P-Se-C rings 18-23 and WR based on similar methodologies has also been investigated (Scheme 4). [18] More recently, a larger-scale route to prepare WR, which can be conveniently scaled up to approximately 150 g, has been successfully realized. This method starts with the formation of Na 2 Se in liquid ammonia and uses PhPCl 2 (Scheme 5).…”

“…9 With a large excess of chalcogen, however, Woollins et al identified products that result from replacement of PhP groups by selenido or dichalcogenido (−E−E−) units, but with the PCP scaffold intact. 10 In addition, several carbon-free heterocycles (not shown in Scheme 2) were characterized as minor products on the basis of NMR ( 31 P and 77 Se).…”

“…3 In sharp contrast the structures of diselenophosphinate [R 2 PSe 2 ] À (R = t Bu, Ph, i Pr) ligands were structurally characterized as their triethylammonium salts by O'Brien's group only in 2007. 4 Woollins' group has also reported a dimeric compound [CH 2 (PhPSe 2 ) 2 ] 2À , 5 as a potassium salt which contains a diselenophosphinate moiety, and a sodium complex of [Ph 2 PSe 2 ] À containing an uncoordinated [Ph 2 PSe 2 ] À ligand. 6 Also Grobe et.al.…”
