Photo-bactericidal Properties of Hydroxyapatite Implant Surface Coating

Abstract: Implant-associated infection is a common postoperative complication and remains a serious problem in the surgery. This work describes the development of hydroxyapatite implants with photo-bactericidal properties by the surface coating. The unique coating as crystalline nanoparticles of IR photosensitizers of implant was investigated using infrared spectroscopy. It has been proved that by the interaction of nanoparticles covering implant with the polar solvent, which simulates the interaction of the implant wit… Show more

“…Implant techniques have found utilization in many areas of medicine (orthopaedics, cardiovascular, dentistry, traumatology and neurosurgery). Surgical intervention with subsequent implantation influence post-operative recovery, preventing inflammatory responses and of the implant rejection processes [17]. The crucial characteristics of well-designed implants include porosity, elastic biocompatibility, appropriate mechanical strength, low surface friction, corrosion resistance, improved tribology, ability to reduce inflammation and reduced bacterial adhesion to the surface.…”
