Photoacoustic Spectroscopy Gas Detection Technology Research Progress

Shuidong Xiong,
Xiangyu Yin,
Qi Wang
et al.

Abstract: Photoacoustic spectroscopy (PAS) can be utilized as an ultrasensitive gas detection method. The basic principles of gas detection using PAS are discussed in this paper. First, the basic instrumentation for a PAS gas detection system is introduced focusing on the photoacoustic cell. The discussion includes non-resonant photoacoustic cells and the different types of resonant photoacoustic cells, including the longitudinal photoacoustic cell, the Helmholtz photoacoustic cell, the T-type photoacoustic cell, and th… Show more

“…PAS technology operates on the principle that sound waves are generated through lasermatter interaction. 27 Traditional photoacoustic cells, typically having lower frequency ranges, are susceptible to low-frequency noise disturbances. The introduction of tuning forks in PAS elevates the system's resonance frequency to around 32 kHz, thus enhancing its resistance to interference compared to conventional PAS technologies.…”

“…Their sensitivity to environmental stability and external interference also poses significant challenges. PAS technology operates on the principle that sound waves are generated through laser‐matter interaction 27 . “…PAS is acknowledged for trace gas detection based on photoacoustic effect [10] , [11] , [12] , [13] , [14] , [15] . Compared with non-resonant PAS, resonant PAS has the advantage of resonant amplification by the enhancement effect of standing wave [16] , [17] , [18] , [19] , [20] . So the resonant PAS usually has higher detection sensitivity.…”
