Photocatalytic Activity of TiO2‐Containing Nanocomposites versus the Chemical Nature of the Polymeric Matrices: A Comparison

Abstract: Environmental remediation of xenobiotic pollutants is an important issue in industrialized society. Catalyst‐mediated pollutant photodegradation using solar light shows promising results. Titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2 NPs) are a well‐known standard for mineralizing organic water pollutants. Its use as a sludge pointed out the need to support this photocatalyst to ease both its use and recovery. Polymers represent a viable solution because of their versatility, stability, and cheapness. The in situ radic… Show more

“…126 In this context, a one pot in situ FRP procedure was employed by Vento et wt %) through extended sonication to enable the monomers to be absorbed onto the pores of the TiO 2 NPs and subsequently polymerized. 127 Similarly, Midya et al developed a cl-Chp(DEAEM)/Au nanocomposite by facilitating the in situ creation of AuNPs over the cl-Ch-p(DEAEM) copolymer's surface. In this process, the copolymer itself acts as a reducing mediator due to the occurrence of −NH 2 groups within its molecular structure, enabling the effective reduction of Au(III) toward Au(0) NPs.…”

“…In this context, a one pot in situ FRP procedure was employed by Vento et al to fabricate three dissimilar nanocomposites with diverse polymeric matrices. Three different monomers, i.e., MMA, VAc, and styrene (S), were combined with TiO 2 NPs (5 wt %) through extended sonication to enable the monomers to be absorbed onto the pores of the TiO 2 NPs and subsequently polymerized . Similarly, Midya et al developed a cl -Ch-p(DEAEM)/Au nanocomposite by facilitating the in situ creation of AuNPs over the cl -Ch-p(DEAEM) copolymer’s surface.…”
