Abstract: In this work, we studied the catalytic performance of a β-Bi2O3/Bi12SiO20 nanocomposite material in the reactions involving the photodecomposition of rhodamine B and selective photooxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF). The semiconductor composite nanomaterial was obtained by means of the mechanical grinding of a mixture of nanopowders of β-Bi2O3 and sillenite, both individually produced via pulsed laser ablation. The crystal structure of the prepared composite particles was confirmed by means of X-ray di… Show more

“…According to the literature, the • OH species predominantly attack the chromophore structure and induce the cleavage of the ring structure of the RhB molecule. 58 The photocatalytic properties of the SA-modified Sm-TiO 2 samples improved significantly under sunlight irradiation (Figure 8c). The order of removal efficiency of RhB with the different photocatalysts was 1% Sm-TiO 2 /SA (99.8%) ≙ 1.5% Sm-TiO 2 /SA > 3% Sm-TiO 2 /SA > TiO 2 /SA within 60 min.…”
