Photocatalytic Degradation of p-Nitrophenol (PNP) in Aqueous Suspension of TiO2

Abstract: Cl− is found to be detrimental to the photodegradation of PNP. Hydrogen ion concentration of reaction mixture was found to increase continuously during photodegradation suggesting mineralization of PNP.

“…The highest efficiency was observed at a pH value of about 7.5 (Fig. As Islam et al 23 expressed the effect of pH on the degradation of 4-NP against TiO 2 at neutral conditions, the following reaction is possible for the generation of • OH: It is clear that the change in the solution pH has a critical effect on the 4-NP photoreduction, directly affecting the surface charge properties of the photocatalyst and the adsorption of pollutants.…”

“…Hence, the reduction of NiP using various catalyst systems is the only way to reduce the pollution caused by the NiP. Currently, various catalyst systems such as iron niobate [6], hydroxyapatite [7], Au nanoparticles (NP) [8], Au-SiO 2 [9], layered double hydroxides (LDH) [10], TiO 2 [11], Al 2 O 3 [12], Pd-Ag [13], AC-Ag [14], Au-CeO 2 [15], aminoclay-Fe NP [16], Clay-Pt [17], Fe 3 O 4 [18], Ni-Se [19] and Ni-P [20] are used for the reduction of NiP. Through study of the literature, any report based on the Cu and Al nanoparticles as a catalyst for the reduction of NiP in the presence of NaBH 4 is not found.…”
