Abstract.Ca 2+ and Dy 3+ co-doped ZnWO 4 system was synthesized successfully via high temperature solid-state reaction. The photoluminescent, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and photocatalytic properties of the phosphors had been studied systematically. , which could be ascribed to more electron-hole pairs generated and the combination of electrons and holes decreased in the co-doped phosphors. Thus, resulting in the increase of photocatalytic activity.

Even with rigorous environmental regulations, phenol still is a major contaminant. One possible solution is the use of heterogeneous photocatalysis due to low chemical addition, feasibility and reliability to be implanted on cost-effective industrial process. TiO 2 is the most employed photocatalyst because of its favorable (photo) chemical properties and ZnO is considered one of the best alternative for that. Other oxides were tested in lesser proportions, like CuO and Ga 2 O 3 . When the photocatalyst is dispersed as slurry, higher degradation rates are achieved due to high solid to liquid contact area when compared with supported form. The aim of this work was to develop a batch recirculating photocatalytic reactor and evaluate its efficiency when assisted by the photocatalysts TiO 2 P25, ZnO, CuO and β-Ga 2 O 3 . TiO 2 achieved 95% mineralization after 200 min reaction in an average degradation rate of 0.68 mg·L ). Ga 2 O 3 and CuO presented poor performance, mainly due to low surface area for the CuO syntesized and the absorption of the UV radiation by the reactor walls, decreasing Ga 2 O 3 activity. Degradation intermediates were detected in diverse concentrations and at different operational times for each oxide tested, which indicate different degradation mechanisms.

BACKGROUND The work describes the synthesis of n‐amyl acetate from n‐amyl alcohol, a byproduct of the sugar industry. The synthesis was carried out using Burkholderia cepacia lipase immobilized on a hydrophobic polymer support containing hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose and polyvinyl alcohol. The reaction conditions were optimized and intrinsic kinetics were evaluated. An immobilized lipase‐coated film reactor was designed and evaluated for continuous flow synthesis. An attempt has been made to model the coated film reactor based on axial dispersion method. RESULTS The reaction conditions were optimized using a central composite design‐based response surface method. The optimum conditions for a maximum conversion of 99.5% were an acyl donor : alcohol ratio of 2:1, temperature 50 °C and catalyst loading 40 mg in n‐hexane. The intrinsic kinetics of reaction were fitted using an order bi–bi model with alcohol inhibition. The continuous flow synthesis was carried out in a coated film reactor with residence times ranging from 12 min to 60 min with per pass conversions of 5.6% and 22%, respectively. The catalyst was successfully recycled for five cycles. CONCLUSION The activation energy of the reaction was found to be 15.48 kJ mol−1. The productivity from batch and continuous flow reactor were found to be 8.16 and 6.54 mmol g−1 h−1. © 2018 Society of Chemical Industry
