Photochemical advanced oxidative process treatment effect on the pesticide residues reduction and quality changes in dried red peppers

Abstract: Pesticide residues in crops are widely monitored, and the residue reduction techniques at the post-harvest stage are important to maintain food safety. In dried crops, pesticide residues can be concentrated after dehydration, which increases concerns regarding residue risk. Therefore, the residue reduction effects of ultraviolet (UV), ozone, and photochemical advanced oxidative process (pAOP) were investigated for dried peppers at the post-harvest stage. UV254 treatment reduced 59.7% of the residue concentrati… Show more

“…The light quantity was controlled at 100, 300, and 500 PPFD, and the quantity was measured with a Portable Luxmeter (HD2102.1, Delta OHM S.r.l., Selvazzano Dentro, Italy). The blue light LED (Zhongshan Jinsung Electronic, Zhongshan, China) and UVA lamp (Hansung Ultraviolet Co. Ltd. Seongnam, Republic of Korea) were used as additional light sources . The additional blue light and UVA were irradiated to 10% of the total PPFD and 2.5 W m –2 , respectively.…”

“…Its residues are often found in fruit, vegetables, cereals, and dairy products, as well as in drinking water [16][17][18][19]. Currently, there are several methods for treating pesticide-contaminated water, including ozonation [20,21], reverse osmosis [21], photocatalytic degradation [22] using various nanomaterials [23], the advanced oxidative process [24,25], photo-Fenton processes [26,27], anaerobic-aerobic biological treatment [28], etc. AC adsorption is a highly successful technique used for the removal of pesticides from contaminated water [29].…”
