Photochemical and thermal stability of degradable PE/paper waste composites obtained by extrusion

Abstract: The low-density polyethylene (PE)/waste paper composites with different components ratio were prepared by extrusion. The photochemical stability of these samples and crystallinity degree of PE in blends were studied using ATR-FTIR spectroscopy. The thermal properties of composites were estimated by thermogravimetric analysis. Moreover, the morphological changes were observed by SEM. It was found that after long-term exposure to UV (100 h) composites undergo more efficient photo-oxidative degradation when compa… Show more

“…The emergence of these new bands is related to the occurrence of ester functional groups formed by the reaction between surface OH groups of cellulose present in WPP and anhydride group of maleated LLDPE (Figure ). Similar type of observation for the ester bond formation between OH groups of various natural fibers and maleic anhydride grafted polymers have been explained in the literature . 0, The highly intense and sharp spectral band at 3442 cm −1 (Figure ) indicates a strong H‐bonding formed between the hydrogen atom of OH group on WPP and oxygen atom of grafted maleic anhydride (Figure ) .…”
