Photochemotherapy for localized morphoea: effect on clinical and molecular markers

Abstract: PUVA is associated with clinical improvement in patients with morphoea, as shown by significant improvement in the skin score. However, in one patient who had been simultaneously started on ciclosporin, this improvement could not be attributed to the phototherapy alone. Although the sample size was small, we also found that certain lymphocyte markers, adhesion molecules and cytokines are affected by this treatment, helping to further clarify the mechanism of action of PUVA treatment.

“…Ancak PUVA'nın lokalize sklerodermadaki etkinliği ile ilgili veriler, genellikle retrospektif özellikte, sınırlı sayıda hastayı içeren çalışmalardan doğmaktadır. On üç hastayı içeren, açık, prospektif bir çalışmada, haftada iki PUVA uygulaması ile, ortanca 28 seans sonunda, deri skorlarında ortalama %62,9'luk bir azalma elde edilmiştir (78). Yirmi sekiz hastanın banyo PUVA ile tedavi edildiği bir çalışmada, hastaların %39'unda ortalama 71 seans sonunda tam yanıt, %50'sinde ise ortalama 51 seans sonunda kısmi yanıt ortaya çıkmıştır (79).…”
