Photocurable pentaerythritol triacrylate/lithium phenyl‐2,4,6‐trimethylbenzoylphosphinate‐based ink for extrusion‐based 3D printing of magneto‐responsive materials

Abstract: Recent advances in additive manufacturing made it feasible to fabricate products with desired shapes and features. Herein, a new, photocurable 3D printer ink mainly based on pentaerythritol triacrylate (PETA) is reported. To achieve rapid curing needed for 3D printing process, high performance water‐soluble photoinitiator, lithium phenyl‐2,4,6‐trimethylbenzoylphosphinate (LAP), was emulsified in PETA monomers and this suspension was evaluated for its polymerization kinetics by exposing to 395 nm UV‐light. “…Extrusion‐based printing technique is one of the widely used methods to build hydrogel‐based scaffolds, in which viscous polymer solutions are forced and extruded out of a nozzle and hardened on a fabrication stage. [ 1,19 ] Extrusion‐based 3D printing of scaffolds based on natural polymers, such as silk proteins and gelatin, under ambient conditions is desired for a broad range of biomedical applications. “…Structures in the form of rectangular prisms (15 Â 15 Â 10 mm) were 3D printed (HyRel Engine standard resolution 3D printer with 30 cc syringe head syringe head) [52] under a 5W UV light source with 365 nm wavelength. The printing parameters used were 1.81 mm nozzle diameter, 2 mm s À1 printing speed, and 50% rectangular fill pattern.…”

“…Additive manufacturing is becoming an ultimate tool to produce composites [41] and especially permanent magnets. [42][43][44][45][46][47][48] It has been used to produce magneto-responsive structures [49][50][51][52] and Nd-Fe-B-based magnets. [43,47] Herein, Fe flakes, prepared by high energy ball milling, have been partially transformed to more than 50% by volume Fe 16 N 2 phase following nitridation at low temperatures.…”

“…A custom-made Y-junction glass equipment was used in the reaction to increase the yield (14,15). NaBH4 and AgNO3 solutions were repelled through the center of flow tubes by N2 gas pressure, then a controlled molarity of chemical reacts when they encounter with each other.…”
