“…4). Effects of pH and H 2 O 2 on the percentage of iron retained in solution are minimal, although the curvature observed around pH 6.5 seems to be in accordance with Metsarinne et al [34], who have observed higher stability of Fe(III)-EDDS at pH 6.5 both in distilled and lake water. The rate of energy accumulation in the CPC tubes was higher than in the solar simulated system considering an average radiation of 30 W m −2 (about 0.17 kJ min −1 L −1 in the CPC compared to 0.03 kJ min −1 L −1 in the simulator), so the process was significantly faster.…”

“…It is mentioned in the literature that the ratio between Fe(III) and EDDS in Fe(III)-EDDS species prevalent between pH 5 and 8 is always 1:1 [30]. Additionally, Metsarinne et al [34] mentioned that while Fe(III)-EDDS is rapidly photodegraded, EDDS alone can be stable for days in both distilled and more complex lake water. Uncomplexed EDDS can thus be expected to remain stable for the duration of the experiment.…”

“…All works discussed in this paper consider only the [SS]-isomer when referring to EDDS. The biodegradability of several chelating agents in activated sludge has been studied [48]. The authors of this study found that the EDTA molecule remained intact for up to 100 days, whereas EDDS was biodegraded rapidly in the activated sludge.…”

“…EDDS performs better than EDTA at solubilizing Cu and Zn from soils at pH 7 at equimolar ratios of chelating agent to metals (Hauser et al, 2005). A colorimetric assay, IC-ICP-MS, GC, and HPLC are the most powerful tools to determine EDDS in soils and plants (Ammann, 2002;Knepper, 2003;Metsarinne, Tuhkanen and Aksela, 2001;Takahashi et al, 1997Takahashi et al, , 1999Tandy et al, 2005;Vandevivere et al, 2001).…”
