“…A variety of treatment methods has been established for the removal of antibiotics and heavy metals from water (Farooq et al, 2002;Le-Minh et al, 2010;Lopez et al, 2003;Zazouli et al, 2009;Zhao et al, 2010). Among these methods, adsorption remains attractive because of its advantages of easy operation, energy savings and high removal capacity.…”

“…• In this process there were no toxic byproducts but in photolysis (Shaojun 2008), Ozonation (Li 2008 andUslu 2009) and UV/TiO 2 (Zhao 2010), the byproducts were toxic. The biological treatments for OTC removing were not very successful, because of the toxicity of OTC for microorganism and low yield of removing by them (Huang 2011a andArikan 2006).…”

“…In 5 to 30 minutes of ozonation, the products were much more toxic than the initial material (Li 2008). The concentration of 1000 mg/L OTC in the photocatalytic process of TiO 2 /UV at pH =7 after 210 min, 88% have been removed (Zhao 2010). In Fenton process, Iron and Hydrogen peroxide in a ratio of 1 to 10, after 120 min 70% of OTC with 100 mg/L initial concentration was removed (Uslu 2009).…”

“…78 Seitz et al 79 found that TiO 2 NPs (∼100 nm; 0.2 mg/L) could reduce nearly 30% of the pirimicarb concentration under UV irradiation (40 W/m 2 for 15 minutes), which resulted in an almost complete removal of pirimicarb toxicity to D. magna. Zhao et al 80 indicated that TiO 2 NPs under UV irradiation could degrade oxytetracycline, which is widely used in both human and veterinary medicine. Higher degraded toxic byproducts were detected by a standardized bioluminescence assay of inhibition rate on Vibrio qinghaiensis sp.-Q67 (Q67), which indicates that a possible enhancement in ecological toxicity may occur after combination of TiO 2 NPs with oxytetracycline under UVA irradiation.…”
