Photodermatoses in India

Abstract: Photodermatoses are a group of disorders resulting from abnormal cutaneous reactions to solar radiation. They include idiopathic photosensitive disorders, drug or chemical induced photosensitivity reactions, DNA repair-deficiency photodermatoses and photoaggravated dermatoses. The pathophysiology differs in these disorders but photoprotection is the most integral part of their management. Photoprotection includes wearing photoprotective clothing, applying broad spectrum sunscreens and avoiding photosensitizing… Show more

“…Photodermatoses is a term used to refer to skin diseases instigated/exaggerated due to exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays. Photodermatoses is categorized into 4 classes such as “immunologically mediated photodermatoses, chemical- induced and drug-induced photosensitivity, photoaggravated dermatoses, and inherited disorders with defective DNA repair or with chromosomal instability.”[ 1 ] These photodermatoses involve different pathophysiology and clinical presentations. [ 2 ] In this case series, we presented 4 cases of photodermatoses due to various etiologies.…”
