Photoluminescence of Y3(Al, Ga)5O12:Ce3+ Nanoparticles by a Reverse Micelle Process

Abstract: Trivalent cerium-ion-doped Y 3 (Al, Ga) 5 O 12 nanoparticle phosphor nanoparticles were synthesized using the reverse micelle process. The Ce doped Y 3 (Al, Ga) 5 O 12 particles were obtained from nitrate solutions dispersed in the nanosized aqueous domains of a micro emulsion consisting of cyclohexane as the oil phase and poly(oxyethylene) nonylphenyl ether (Igepal CO-520) as the non-ionic surfactant. The crystallinity, morphology, and thermal properties of the synthesized Y 3 (Al, Ga) 5 O 12 :Ce 3+ powders w… Show more

“…Therefore, both the theory of these substances and their practical application are based exclusively on investigations of luminescent emission [1][2][3][4][5][6][7], diffuse reflection [8][9][10][11][12] and transmission spectra [13], excitation spectra [14][15][16][17][18] as well as on the absorption ones [19]. Since these investigations cannot provide separated registration of the parts of the scattered and absorbed light, it is not possible to calculate the main optical characteristic of powder materials -their absorption coefficient.…”
