Photolyse De l'IODURE De Vinyle en Solution Dans Le Tetrachlorure De Carbone

Abstract: The photolysis of vinyl iodide in carbon tetrachloride solutions gives several products among which the most important are: acetylene, hydrogen iodide, iodine, ethylene, and vinyl chloride. A mechanism based on diffusion-controlled disproportionation of geminate radicals, as first proposed by Hamill, agrees well with the observed phenomena. T o explain the diminishing production of ethylene and iodine with increasing concentration of the monomer, it is necessary t o postulate a telomerization of the vinyl iodi… Show more

“…The reaction involving molecular decomposition, does not seem to be important, because the work of Meisels and Sworski 16 shows that molecular abstraction is not favoured following absorption of high-energy radiation. The photochemistry of vinyl iodide shows that molecular abstraction does not take place either in the liquid phase 4 or the vapour phase.17 (12) The fact that iodine formation is little influenced by intensity of radiation lends credence to reaction (5). Reduction in the rate of iodine formation in relation to absorbed dose is explained by one (or more) reaction involving iodine consumption such as which would take place outside the spur.…”
