Photon echoes in strong magnetic fields

Abstract: The polarization properties of photon echoes in strong magnetic field, when the action of this field during the time of propagation of the exciting pulses and the echo signal through the resonant gaseous medium cannot be neglected, are studied theoretically. The photon echo polarization in strong magnetic field cannot be described by the polarization vector but rather by the polarization matrix. The degree of the photon echo polarization decreases with the increase of the magnetic field strength. The dependenc… Show more

“…In the micromaser experiments the atoms are excited from the ground state g with the angular momentum J g to the upper maser level b with the angular momentum J b by the linearly polarized resonant laser pulses. In case of the micromaser standard operation the atoms enter the cavity in the excited maser level their non-zero density matrix elements ρ in A bb µµ = n b µµ being defined by the relations [9]:…”

“…However the levels of an isolated atom are degenerate in the projections of the angular momenta on the quantization axis, and this degeneracy must be taken into account. The Jaynes-Cummings model with degenerate atomic levels and a single mode of the quantized field with the fixed polarization was studied in [9][10][11][12]. In the paper [9] the general expression for the evolution operator for such a model was obtained.…”
