Photoproduction of pentaquark states at the LHC

Abstract: In this paper we investigate the production of pentaquarks states in the photon -proton interactions present in hadronic collisions at the LHC. We consider two phenomenological models for the J/Ψ photoproduction that consider the presence of the Pc(4312), Pc(4440) and Pc (4457) resonances in the s -channel of the γp → J/Ψp reaction. The rapidity distribution is estimated for pP b collisions in the collider and fixed -target modes of the LHC. Predictions for P b Ar and P b He fixed -target collisions are also p… Show more

“…Photoproduction data would help elucidate the nature of these states (108)(109)(110). Pentaquarks may also be produced, via γ p → P (111). Jefferson Lab's GlueX experiment has recently put strong limits on photoproduction of cc-containing pentaquarks (112).…”

“…Second, it is expected to be possible to extract from the quarkonium photoproduction cross section near threshold the quarkonium-hadron scattering length, which can be used to determine the J/ and ϒ binding energy in nuclear matter [31,33,36,51,52]. Finally, this process is an irreducible background for the searching of the P c and P b pentaquark states, predicted to be produced in photon-hadron interactions and to decay into the J/ p and ϒ p final states, respectively [53][54][55][56][57]. Recently, the GlueX Collaboration at Jefferson Laboratory (JLab) has reported its data for the photoproduction of J/ in ep scattering [58], with the new data for the threshold cross section being significantly different from the 40-yearold Cornell data and more data from JLab are expected in a near future.…”

“…In Refs. [53,57], the photoproduction of pentaquark states in fixed target collisions at the LHC was investigated, and the results pointed out that a future experimental analysis of the P c and P b states is, in principle, feasible. However, in order to constrain the properties of these states, it is fundamental to have precise estimates of the exclusive vector meson photoproduction cross section at low energies, which is an irreducible background for the pentaquark photoproduction.…”
