Photosynthetic, Biochemical and Secondary Metabolite Changes in a Medicinal Plant Chlorophytum borivillianum (Safed musli) against Low and High Doses of UV‐B Radiation

Abstract: Plants are inevitably grown in presence of sunlight, therefore bound to be exposed to natural UV-B radiation. Several studies have already been conducted with UV-B and medicinal plants and only few studies showed dose dependent variation. The present study aims to find out the variations and adaptation in Chlorophytum borivillianum under two different doses of UV-B radiation; ambient + low (3.2 kJm À2 d À1 ) and high (7.2 kJm À2 d À1 ) UV-B dose, denoted as LD and HD, respectively. Reduction in photosynthetic … Show more

“…ROS production in response to UVB is indicated by the H 2 O 2 content in this study, which was greater under higher doses of UVB. High ROS content was also observed in Chlorophytum borivillianum and grapevines under exposure to a higher amount of UVB [31,32]. Increases in H 2 O 2 production induces membrane lipid peroxidation, which is indicated by the level of MDA content [33].…”

“…51, No. 1 (2024) ENHANCEMENT RUTIN PRODUCTION FROM Capparis spinose … has also shed insight on the mechanisms that can boost the generation of secondary metabolites (Jaiswal et al, 2023). It has been shown that plant of which grow in harsh environments are better suited to manufacture these chemicals (Kataria et al, 2021).…”

“…Like most treatments, there are still some limitations on the use of UV radiation. Exposing fruit to UV radiation for extended periods can negatively affect fruit chlorophyll and carotenoids (Jaiswal et al, 2023).…”
