Cercospora leaf blight (CLB) is one of the most important diseases of soybean (Glycine max) in southern USA, with estimated annual losses of about $45 million (Allen et al., 2017). In 2010, CLB was detected in 70% of the surveyed soybean fields in Alabama (Sikora et al., 2011), while estimated yield losses in Louisiana and Mississippi for 2016 were 64,000 (about 4.0% of total yield) and 56,000 tonnes (2.1%), respectively (Allen et al., 2017). CLB is also present in other major soybean-producing countries, including Argentina and Brazil (Soares et al., 2015).Until 2015, Cercospora kikuchii was largely thought to be the sole causal agent of the disease. However, later studies associated CLB with at least three more Cercospora species: C. cf. flagellaris, C. cf.
