“…Due to the high morphological variability and the high number of described taxa, systematics and taxonomy is quite complicated and controversial. Although several clausiliid taxa have been intensively studied concerning phylogenetic [2, 3], phylogeographic [4] and even population genetic questions [5], no microsatellite markers have been applied so far in any of the door snail genera.…”

“…Partial cox1 and 16S rDNA as well as partial sequences of the nuclear rDNA gene cluster (partial sequences of the 5.8S rDNA, the complete internal transcribed spacer 2 (ITS2) and partial 28S rDNA sequences) from the study of Neiber and Hausdorf () were retrieved from GenBank. Partial sequences of the nuclear histone 3 (H3) gene (primer pair H3PulF plus H3PulR, Uit de Weerd and Gittenberger ; see Table ), partial sequences of the mitochondrial 12S rDNA (primer pair 12Sam plus 12Sbm; Hausdorf et al. ; see Table ) as well as partial sequences of the nuclear ribosomal gene cluster including parts of the 18S rDNA, the complete internal transcribed spacer 1 (ITS1), and parts of the 5.8S rDNA (primer pair 18S2093 plus 5.8S74r, see Table ) and partial 28S rDNA sequences (primer pair LSU2 plus LSU4, Wade and Mordan ; see Table ) were newly generated.…”

“…For nine specimens 28S sequences had already been determined by Uit de Weerd (2008). For two of these, Autocoptis (Autocoptis) menkeana and Cerion striatellum crassilabris, we used an existing H3 sequence (Uit de Weerd & Gittenberger, 2013). For the H3 primers and PCR reaction we followed Uit de Weerd & Gittenberger (2013).…”

For COI various primer combinations were used in the PCR and the sequencing reaction (see Tables S1.2 & S1.3 in Appendix S1).…”
