Physical activity and disability measures in chronic non-specific low back pain: a study of responsiveness

Abstract: Disability measures were responsive after a course of physical therapy treatment in patients with CLBP. The lack of responsiveness in the physical activity measures might be due to the inability of these measures to detect change over time or the use of an intervention not designed to increase physical activity levels.

“…Criterion validity assesses to what degree the self‐reported measures reflects a “gold standard.” 26 Future studies should investigate if the SBQ correlates with sedentary behavior measured using a gold standard such as ActivPAL 39 or direct observation. In addition, future studies should also investigate the responsiveness and interpretability (by calculating the minimally clinical important difference) of the SBQ after an intervention specifically designed to reduce the time spent on sedentary activities in this population 40 …”

“…The importance of physical activity among patients with LBP has been increasingly investigated in recent times (Morelhao et al, ; Oliveira, Franco, et al, ). However, the overall quality of evidence was low‐quality evidence which suggests that better designed studies are still needed to draw definitive conclusions on this topic.…”

The patients were recruited through advertisements or physicians.…”
