“…Several researchers (Alvarez et al 1994;Ahn et al 2001;Zhang et al 2006;Cakal et al 2007;Liu et al 2008;Everson et al 2008;Fouga et al 2011;Tanner and Bhattacharya 2016;Wang et al 2015) have studied kinetic behavior of coal gasification using different kinetic models. They have used different raw materials and various operating conditions.…”

“…Ye et al [4] treated the low-rank coal with an acid and removed all the cations from the coal and observed that reactivity of the low-rank coal was about the same as to the high-rank coal [16]. Cakal et al [6] used four different lignite samples (Elbistan, Soma, Seyitomer, and Tuncbilek) under the CO 2 stream at two different temperatures 875 C and 1000 C in a TGA apparatus and observed that Elbistan coal was highly active. The order of reactivity sequence at these temperatures was given as Elbistan > Soma > Seyitomer > Tuncbilek.…”

“…CO 2 is not used industrially as much as steam in the gasification or activation processes but it is the preferred agent used at laboratory level and CeCO 2 reaction is of great importance. The slower reaction rate at temperatures around 723 C allows a better control of the gasification process and analysis of the different variables [6]. The effect of pressure on char-CO 2 gasification has been extensively studied by numerous researchers [9,35,39,43,51,156,172e174] and modern theories are proposed under atmospheric pressure conditions [175,176].…”

“…TGA techniques are widely used to determine coal ignition behaviour [13][14][15][16][17]. However TGA analysers operate under very different conditions from those encountered in pilot-scale and industrial furnaces.…”
