“…Therefore, it is necessary to adopt methods such as covering entrance zone sidewall with light coating materials and increasing the lighting intensity of luminaire inside the tunnel to enhance the luminance and luminance uniformity. Other measures would be to install guidance facilities to help drivers adapt to the environment of the tunnel more quickly, and to provide shade and vegetation to reduce the difference in luminance between the inside and outside of the tunnel during the daytime, thus alleviating the psychological load of drivers and improving driving safety (64,65).…”

“…Improving the lighting environment by improving light utilization through highly reflective materials has received much attention. Qin et al found that compared with the fireproof material, the physical properties of the energy storage self-luminous material tunnel (i.e., road surface luminance, sidewall luminance, overall uniformity of luminance, and longitudinal uniformity of luminance) were higher; Chen et al found that the ratio of sidewall to pavement luminance in the tunnel decorated with energy-storage and luminescent coating is 1.3–1.4, which is far greater than the demand of lighting specifications . Some researchers have also developed coatings to modify pavement reflectivity, achieving reflectance rates of up to 60%, to improve the quality of lighting. , However, these materials often have persistence issues and are costly.…”
