Research of structure and properties of Cu-Pb-Cu composite interface, obtained by technology of pack rolling of the pair of mutually insoluble metals, was performed using the methods of metallography, micro-and nano-hardness, mechanical tests, energy-dispersion elementary analyses. The work was aimed at the analyses of possible mechanical mechanisms of mass-transfer, determining the hardness of metal joint in conditions of absence of inter-diffusion. It was shown that different intensity of mass transfer of copper and lead takes place through the composite interface, which corresponds to the results obtained on the other system of dissimilar materials-copper-niobium. Qualitative explanation of these patterns was offered on the basis of more intensive plastic flow of fusible compound of the composite in conditions of roll-bond joining.

Experiments were performed to study the defect structure formation in a thin surface layer of 20Cr18Ni10Ti steel in frictional wear. It is shown that plastic deformation constrained by a friction pair is inhomogeneous and displays a vortex rotational character. A method of excitable cellular automata is developed for a theoretical description of the formation of vortex structures in multiscale polycrystalline structures. Numerical experiments demonstrate the formation of rotational deformation modes on different structural scalesmodulation of local moments of forces along the grain boundary and fragmentation of initial structural elements in initial conglomerates of self-consistently deformed grains in the field of couple stresses.

Mesomechanics of multiple cracking of brittle coatings in a loaded solid

The paper deals with an analysis of two kinds of multiple cracking in a loaded solid with a brittle coating. First is the front-wise development of opening mode cracks, while the second is the formation of a system of sliding mode cracks along conjugate directions of maximum tangential stresses τ max . The mesomechanics of each kind of multiple cracking is discussed. The conditions which provide an increase in both the strength and the ductility of a loaded solid experiencing multiple cracking are formulated; the essence of the model is the growth of cracks in the sliding mode along conjugate directions of maximum tangential stresses
