Ayurveda is an ancient science dominantly focuses on healthy living and mindful life in contrary to other medical sciences. Ayurveda specifically uses herbs and herbo-mineral combinations for the treatment. The herbs described in the classics also include some Vishadravya (poisonous plants) as potent medicine. Anything that results in "Vishannatva" (stress) or "Vishada" (sadness) in the body is "Visha" (poisonous material). Depending on the intensity of toxicity, Ayurvedic classics have classified all poisons into two categories: Mahavisha and Upavisha (less potent toxin). Vatsanabha (Aconitum ferox Wall. ex Seringe) is classified under the Sthavara Visha (poison of plant origin) and Mahavisha. It is the only Mahavisha that is still recognised and available. All Vishadravya should be used after some specific Shodhana (purification). While administering Vatsanabha in the form of Ayurvedic medicines, Shodhana (purification) is an effective technique for minimising its hazardous effects. Although it is Vishadravya, the compounds containing Vatsanabha (Aconitum ferox Wall. ex Seringe) are listed in ‘Essential Ayurveda Medication for Ayurvedic dispensaries, operated under centrally supported programmes of the Government of India. This enlistment affirms its significance in other ways. Nearly 17 percentage of the formulations mentioned in RRS have Vatsanabha as their constituent. Modern research has already proven the analgesic, antipyretic, antioxidant, antimicrobial and many other activities of Vatsanabha. Thus, the present review is designed to extensively discuss and understand the safety profile of Vatsanabha and utility in various diseases, along with its probable mode of action.

According to Sushruta, Marma are constituted by confluence of Mansa, Sira, Snayu, Aasthi and Sandhi. They are the Sthana of Prana. According to Acharya Sushruta, Marma comprises of Jala, Vayu, Tej, Satva, Raja, Tama and Bhootatma, so that injury of Marma may lead to death. The concept of Marma is important in the clinical and surgical point of view. The science of Marma is called as half part of whole surgery. In this article an attempt is made to study the Lohitaksha Marma and its Viddha Lakshana (Traumatic effect) by considering the related literature.

Background: Ayurveda is a peculiar domain of medical science which has its remedies for different ailments; either in the form of dietary modifications, lifestyle alterations or treatment modalities. In modern era, due to over inclination towards materialistic life, people often tend to compromise on their lifestyle, which indeed leads to depletion in health causing several ailments. Such compromises in life style and food habits will lead to the manifestation of diseases mainly of Annavaha Srotas. Such a commonly encountered disease is Amlapitta. Along with Tridosha, another entity i.e., Agni also plays an important role in the manifestation of the same. Hence, it is worth a discussion to explore the role of Agni in the development of Amlapitta. Materials and Methods: Extensive literary research was conducted inclusive of electronic databases such as Pubmed, Pubmed central, index medicus And index in Services like Elsevier, Scopus, Embase etc along with classical textbooks of Ayurveda. Discussion: Amlapitta is such a frequently encountered pathological manifestation of Annavaha Srotas which is explained in Ayurveda classics; wherein the Shuktata of Pitta Dosha gets elevated. Agni is an important factor which is responsible for proper occurrence of metabolism, which is utmost important for a disease free life. Conclusion: An effort is made in this paper to emphasize the role of Agni in Amlapitta, which can decide the fate of treatment planned and the rationality behind it.
