Physico-Chemical Attributes of Essential Oil from <i>Zingiber officinale</i> Roscoe and <i>Zingiber zerumbet</i> (L.) Smith Cultivars Grown in Togo

Abstract: The present study was carried out to evaluate the quality of the rhizomes of Zingiber officinale and Zingiber zerumbet from different areas of Togo on the basis of their essential oil content and composition. The dry rhizomes were pulverised, hydrodistilled and essential oils were analysed using GC and GC/MS techniques. The results revealed that the essential oil yield of Z. zerumbet ranged from 0.75% to 1.00% and was mainly composed by Zerumbone (51.8% -37.5%) and humulene (21.7% -28.2%).
