Physico-Chemical Characterization of .GAMMA.-Amino n-Butyric Acid Nanoparticles

Abstract: This work deals with the preparation and characterization of high-purity nanoparticles of g g-amino n-butyric acid (GABA) in order to enhance the efficiency of this drug. A sublimation procedure at low pressure was applied to GABA after improving the experimental parameters of this physical transformation. The elaboration of the molecule is solvent-free. The process does not change the chemical formula of the compound but modifies its physico-chemical characteristics. In this work, we present the experimental … Show more

“…XRD profile of GABA powder revealed sharp intensity peaks. Diffraction peaks of GABA appear to be consistent with patterns of monoclinic form of GABA(Dichi et al, 2011). HNT exhibited several characteristic peaks at diffraction angles (2θ) of 12.06º, 19.90º, 25.02º, 26.52º, 34.88º, 37.3º and 38.1º.…”

“…Particle size of HNT also measured using SEM was in accordance with particle size analysis data obtained previously. GABA and HNT physical mixture showed a sharp melting endotherm at 202.78ºC which is characteristic of GABA melting (Dichi et al, 2011). This peak of GABA was not observed for formulations with heat treatment while a broad endothermic peak was observed at 300°C as seen in Figure 2.…”

“…The group of Dichi performed sublimation by employing an Edwards evaporation apparatus chamber, which was operated under vacuum (10 –3 Pa) at ≥190 °C. The group also states that the metastable form will start losing its biological activity within an hour and several days, which is attributing to its thermodynamically favored relaxation to form I. , For many years, apart from sublimation and subsequent deposition, no polymorphic transition from GABA form I to GABA form II has been identified. In 2019, however, a novel synthesis route to form II via additives was submitted by the group of Gong, which is describing a simple synthesis of the form II. , An overview is given in Table .…”
