Physico-Chemical Properties and Efficiency of Demulsifiers based on Block Copolymers of Ethylene and Propylene Oxides

Abstract: The investigation results about physicochemical properties of block copolymers based on ethylene and propylene oxides and their solutions which may be used as demulsifiers for oil emulsions have been represented. The dependence of their physico-chemical properties on the content of oxyethylene and oxypropylene groups in the molecule has been determined. On the basis of the technological suitability a series of block copolymers was chosen and their demulsified ability was examined. The increase of ethylene oxid… Show more

“…49 The water content in the oil mixture of the Yablunivske field is 4.2 vol %, which requires careful dehydration of crude oil with the use of special reagents -demulsifiers. 50 A characteristic feature of the blended crudes is the low content of light fractions distilled to 633 K. The yield of the residue is about 57 wt %. Therefore, the entire economic component of this mixture refining will ultimately depend on the efficiency of the residue processing.…”

“…For emulsions of oil with water, mainly non-ionic type demulsifiers are used, the flow rate of which is 5-150 g/t of oil or a trapped product [23][24][25][26].…”

“…The content of chlorides and water of investigated samples is also extremely high since these products did not undergo desalinization and dehydration processes, which are mandatory prior to oil refining. However, taking into account the high content of resinousasphaltenic hydrocarbons, such oil is extremely difficult to be dehydrated [25].…”
