Physico-mechanical and erosive wear analysis of polyester fibre-based nonwoven fabric-reinforced polymer composites

Abstract: The research work aims to study the physico-mechanical and erosive wear behaviour of polyester fibre-based needle-punched nonwoven fabric mat reinforced epoxy composites. Therefore, the epoxy composites with varying proportion of polyester fibre-based needle-punched nonwoven fabric mat were fabricated and characterized for their physical, mechanical and erosive wear properties. The experimental results indicated that the increase of fibre content enhanced the physical and mechanical properties of the composite… Show more

“…It is well reported in literature that impingement angle is one of the most important control factors in erosion performance . When the erodent's hit the composite surface at low angles, the force of impact can be divided into two, that is, horizontal and vertical force components . The horizontal force component controls the erodent and vertical force component is responsible for the impact phenomenon.…”

“…The Taguchi experiments were utilized to locate the best operating parameters to analyze erosion behavior. Taguchi technology supplies an effective and systematic methodology for process improvement and is widely utilized for product design and development worldwide [12][13]. Table 2 shows the experimental circumstance for the erosion wear test.…”
