Physiochemical and nutritional attributes of raw and soaked seeds of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) genotypes

Abstract: The present investigation aims to analyze nutrient profile, antinutritional traits and physiochemical characteristics in raw (dry seeds) and water soaked seeds of eighteen chickpea genotypes comprising 16 cold stress tolerant and 2 susceptible. Raw seeds of tolerant genotypes were found to have higher total sugars and protein content and lower amount of trypsin inhibitors. Higher content of raffinose family oligosaccharides in tolerant genotypes is an additional characteristic for their tolerant behaviour and … Show more

“…The superior antioxidant capacity found, in this study, for ethanol and methanolic extract of pomegranate may be regarded to the presence of total tannins and purified constituents as reported earlier by [53,54]. Our results are in line with those of [55] who examined the antioxidant activity of nine different pomegranate peels and pulp.…”

“…Twenty one genotypes had higher content of bound fructose (11.95-14.39 mg/g) and twenty seven genotypes had medium level of bound fructose (9.53-11.95 mg/g). Bound fructose in chickpea genotypes had been reported from 7.64 to 13.39 mg/g (Kaur et al 2016).…”

“…The physical properties of pulse crops were not only important for its quality but they were also important to design the equipment and machines for sorting, separation, transportation and processing Brooker et al, (1992). Change of physiochemical properties can be major economic losses as well seed moisture content is one of the most important factors influencing seed quality in terms of price and seed storability and it may be affected economic return (Kaur et al, 2016;Narayan et al, 1988). Therefore, this study was conducted to analyze the changes of physical properties of soybean under tropical ambient storage conditions.…”
