“…Results of the pathogenicity studies revealed the highest mortality (90%) at the concentration of 1 × 10 8 spores ml −1 and the lowest mortality (10%) at the concentration of 1 × 10 3 spores ml −1 with a LC 50 value of 5.8 × 10 4 spores ml −1 against 2nd instar FAW larvae. The efficacy of M. anisopliae against FAW was also reported by Gutiérrez-Cárdenas et al (2019) reported that the CP-MA 1 strain of M. anisopliae could cause 72.5% mortality at a spore concentration of 54 × 10 4 spores ml −1 . Akutse et al ( 2019) also observed that 1 × 10 8 conidia ml −1 of M. anisopliae strain ICIPE 41 could cause the highest mortality of 96.5% in FAW neonates.…”

“…Current EPF products are focussed on formulations for foliar application against the immature life stages of FAW. However, the compatibility of EPFs with FAW pheromones and their impact on fertility and egg viability highlight the potential for the development of lure and infect application strategies (Rivero-Borja et al 2018;Gutiérrez-Cárdenas et al 2019;Akutse et al 2020b). Furthermore, endophytic colonization of cereals and other hosts with B. bassiana, M. anisopliae, and Metarhizium robertsii (Metchnikoff) Sorokin, and the impact of such plant colonization on FAW survival, growth, reproduction, and food preference offer a promising potential for incorporating EPFs into FAW management practices (Ramirez-Rodriguez & Sanchez-Pena 2016;Jaber & Ownley 2018;Vega 2018;Mwamburi 2021;Russo et al 2021;Gustianingtyas et al 2021).…”

“…acridum . Thus, Gutiérrez-Cárdenas et al [ 164 ] disclosed the potential of entomopathogenic fungi for the management of adults of Spodoptera frugiperda using the auto-dissemination technique. Three isolates of Beauveria bassiana (Balsamo-Crivelli) Vuillemin and six isolates of Metarhizium anisopliae (Metschnikoff) (Hypocreales: Clavicipitaceae) were reported to be pathogenic to the insect, and the isolate M. anisopliae Ma-San Rafel-2 was used for auto-dissemination.…”

The fungus and the synthetic sex pheromone attracted, infected, and killed males 5–8 days after dissemination, paving the way for the potential management of S. frugiperda [ 164 ]. In the same way, Akutse et al [ 165 ] evaluated the effect of 22 entomopathogenic fungi isolates on the fall armyworm S. frugiperda , and their compatibility with the pheromone FALLTRACK lure.…”
