Physiological Changes in Transformed Tomato Plants

Abstract

Transformation experiments with tomato were carried out with a system which included only gene 2. Therefore, fAA would be synthesized only if in the medium indole-3-acetamide was added. This is a possibility to get demarcation of physiological changes connected with the procedures of regeneration only, regeneration plus transformation witl10ut fully expression of gene 2, and with expression of gene 2 when in the medium a precursor IAAm was added. There are no differences in vitro between the stem length at seedling, regenerants and tram,formants without precursor. For transformants with a precursor the development of roots from stems over the surface of the medium is very typical similarly to the air roots. The relationship chi. "a "jchl. "b "is changing generally in regenerants. In transformants with and witl10ut IAAm the chlorophyll content is smaller compared with regenerants. The most dramatic differences in the green house conditions are in the number of flowers, which are five times more in transformant.<; and the flowering hegins four weeks earlier.
