“…These materials play a major role as a source of energy and current global chemical products. The high consumption of traditional fossil resources, with the rapid growth of the world’s population, has caused negative environmental consequences, including acid rain, the greenhouse effect, and atmospheric pollution. Because fossil fuels not only supply most of the energy but they are also the main source of organic molecules, which are necessary for modern life . This led to the expansion of the use of renewable energy sources, such as biomass, solar energy, wind energy, hydropower, and nuclear radiation due to their extensive power, short regeneration periods, and ubiquitous presence as sustainable sources. Among these energy sources, biomass is the only renewable carbon reservoir and the most abundant source in the biosphere; therefore, it is considered as an ideal candidate to help change the traditional fossil sources for the production of chemicals and fuels. A potential long-term solution to the aforementioned global issues is the synthetically efficient utilization of renewable and carbon-neutral biomass resources, which also helps to improve the ecological environment and optimize the energy structure while fixing carbon dioxide in the carbon cycle system.…”
