.Phytochemical analysis of Elateriospermum tapos and its inhibitory effects on alphaamylase, alpha-glucosidase and pancreatic lipase

Abstract: Elateriospermum tapos contains high unsaturated fat and phytochemicals with many health benefits. This paper focuses on activities and inhibitory effects of E. tapos on digestive enzymes. Cold water, hot water and 70% ethanol extracts of the seed and shell of the fruit of E. tapos were used in this study. The extracts were screened for antioxidant activity, total phenolic content, total flavonoid content, and inhibitory effects on α-amylase, α-glucosidase and pancreatic lipase. Hot water extraction of shell of… Show more

“…According to the previous study, E. tapos shell has the highest flavonoid content compared to the E. tapos seed. Among the extraction, the highest amount of flavonoid was found in SHH [15][16][17]. Flavonoid widely used as cancer chemoprevention and chemotherapy [18].…”

“…The study shows that the body weight of rats fed with this E. tapos seed or shell was reduced, as were the fat levels in the rat, due to flavonoids, which were shown to be good at reducing fat accumulation in the rat by increasing the beta-oxidation of fatty acids. Furthermore, it also reduced the total adipose tissue weight among the E.tapos-treated group [6][7][8][9]. Among E. tapos seed and shells, the shell has a more significant effect compared to seed, even though both have the flavonoid compound.…”

“…The present study shows that body weight and total adipose tissue weight in the E.tapos-shell-treated group had a more significant effect compared to a seed. This shows that E. tapos shell contains flavonoids, which help to alleviate the fat oxidation by removing the storage of fat in rats [6][7][8][9].…”

“…Flavonoids also played a pivotal part in the pathway of lipolysis in adipocytes [ 8 ]. Moreover, E. tapos shell has antioxidant properties that lower lipid peroxidation [ 9 ].…”
