The progressive neurodegenerative disease, Alzheimer's disease, affects daily life due to severe memory loss and declining cognitive function. Alzheimer's disease has several hypotheses for its pathophysiology, and on the basis of those hypotheses, researchers are exploring a variety of pathologic targets to find a cure or symptomatic treatment. It has long been known that plants are effective in treating dementia, amnesia, and Alzheimer's disease. A lot of preclinical and clinical studies on plant-based drugs have shown promising results in treating the disease.
In this review, we will focus on plants rich in phenolic phytochemicals and the benefit of those phytochemicals in Alzheimer’s disease treatment.
