Phytochemical Constituents of the Root of Berberis Microphylla

Abstract: Objective: To objective of this work was to perform phytochemical qualitative and quantitative analyzes of the main secondary metabolites in the root of Berberis microphylla. Methods:The extracts of B. microphylla root were tested through phytochemical screening and the quantification of the most important constituents was carried out using spectrophotometric and gravimetric techniques. Results: Phytochemical screening of both extracts showed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides, cardiac glycosides… Show more

“…Likewise, the content in Berberis jaeschkeana fruit tannins (32.4 mg tannic acid/g), flavonoids (188.4 mg quercetin/g) and total phenols (108.9 mg GA/g) have been determined [71]. Arena et al found in Berberis microphylla fruit monomeric anthocyanins (9.7 mg/g), 7.6 mg catechin/g for flavonoids and 31.2 mg tannic acid/g for polyphenols [95]; for the same species, 39 mg/g of alkaloids were identified in root, 5 mg/g flavonoids, 95 mg/g tannins and 35 mg/g saponins [97]. In another work, Bewal and colleagues reported for Berberis asiatica leaves 132.6 mg of GA/g, 31.4 mg of quercetin/g and 145.2 mg of tannic acid/g for total phenols, total flavonoids and total tannins, respectively [96].…”

“…In traditional medicine, calafate plant has been used for cold and fever (Schmeda-Hirschmann et al, 2019) along with the roots as stimulants . This antipyretic characteristic is due to some metabolites as alkaloids (Furrianca et al, 2017). Similarly, other study described that phenolic compounds attribute to this wild plant special desirable qualities for nutraceutical and industrial purposes (López et al, 2018).…”
