Phytochemical Screening, Cytotoxicity, Antioxidant and Antimicrobial Activities of Stem and Leave Extracts of Euphorbia Heterophylla.

Abstract: Phytochemical screening carried out on the stem and leave extracts of Euphorbia heterophylla (Euphorbieacea) confirmed the presence of Carbohydrates, gycosides, reducing sugar, saponins, taninns, phlobatanins, cardiac glycosides, steroids, triterpenes, and flavonoid. cytotoxicity test using brine shrimp lethality assay gave the LC 50 value (µg/cm 3 ) are 20.67, 25.07, 158.56,and 176.55 for n-Hexane fraction, Ethyl Acetate fraction, Butanol fraction and Aqueous fraction of the stem while 23.50, 30.20, 164.10 an… Show more

“…Morocco is recognized for its ecological diversity due to its geographical location as one of the Mediterranean countries with a long history in medical tradition and ancestral know-how of folkloric herbal medicine [10]. The knowledge of using medicinal plants and the procedures applied to their preparation has been inherited from one generation to upcoming either verbally or in writing [11]. The traditional inheritance may be facing extinction if it is not transmitted to next generation [12], many other factors causing a rapid loss of this knowledge like alteration of physical and biological environments, expertise loss due to death of the elderly, migration, rural exodus, acculturation, and modernization [13].…”

“…Certains composés biochimiques tels que les terpènes, les stéroïdes et les dérivés cardiotoniques sont connus pour leur propriété galactogène (Akouedegni et al, 2012). Or le tri phytochimique de Euphorbia heterophylla révèle la présence de ceux-ci ( Okeniyi et al, 2012). C'est ce qui justifie cette propriété galactogène.…”
