“…All the BOD values in the present study were within the acceptable limit; a slightly higher BOD was documented from sampling station 8 due to sand mining and other human activities, but this was within acceptable limit. BOD values followed a similar trend in the upper Ganga basin to those reported by Kamboj et al (2020, 2022). BOD also determines the load of organic pollutants in the river (Nwankwo et al, 2014; Malik et al, 2018).…”

“…In this present study, the data obtained from water samples were statistically analyzed with principal component analysis (PCA) in order to reduce the dimensionality. The technique is usually used for perceiving the most significant water quality parameters by reducing the amount of data with minimum variation in observed variables (Bodrud-Doza et al, 2016; T A B L E 2 Sorting of water quality based on WQI (Ramakrishanaiah et al, 2009) NPI value (Effendi & Wardiatno, 2015) and OIP value (Kamboj & Kamboj, Gulgundi & Shetty, 2018;Kamboj et al, 2022). In PCA, we only take three factors' loading, that is, PC1, PC2, and PC3, that shows the parameters loading with their eigenvalue and cumulative percentage.…”

“…Similar observation was reported by Muhammad and Ullah (2022) in Gomal Zam Dam and its tributaries and Kumar et al (2023) for different lakes of Himachal Pradesh. The aim of water policy in India is to effectively manage and utilize water resources to ensure sustainable development, equitable distribution, and improved water security for all citizens (Kamboj et al, 2022a, 2022b). The overarching goal is to address the complex challenges related to water scarcity, pollution, and inefficient water management practices (Kumari et al, 2023; Thakur et al, 2022).…”

“…A decline in fitness can subsequently upset population dynamics, which can have ripple effects throughout an entire society. Because they can only tolerate minor changes in their surroundings, the species used as bioindicators are able to provide accurate information on the state of the ecosystem (Kamboj et al, 2022).…”
