Abstract:Estrogens potentiate the differentiation of myeloid cells, but little is known about estrogen metabolism in such cells. In this abstract we show that release of estrone from estrone sulphate, catalysed by the enzyme steroid sulphtase, is a major source of estrone in HL60 promyelocytic cells. Estrone was not further metabolised to 17p-estradiol in vivo. Treatment of HL60 cells with retinoids or la,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3increased the expression of steroid sulphatase mRNA and enzyme activity. These changes were co… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
