Pick-and-place application using a dual arm collaborative robot and an RGB-D camera with YOLOv5

Abstract: Nowadays, many industries use robots and cameras in tandem to detect specific objects and perform specific tasks. However, misdetection can occur due to inconsistencies in lighting, background, and environment. In order to address the aforementioned issues, this study proposes using a dual arm six-degree-of-freedom (6-DoF) collaborative robot, ABB YuMi, and red, green, blue-depth (RGB-D) camera with YOLOv5 in a pick-and-place application. In order to prepare the dataset, the images are collected and labeled. T… Show more

“…However, in contrast to typical industrial robots, which are frequently kept at a safe distance from human workers by means of safety barriers, cobots are able to function safely in close proximity to human workers. The jobs that demand both speed and precision, such as assembly, packaging, and quality control, are perfect for these robots because they are suitable for those tasks [26]- [29].…”

“…One of the primary motivating factors behind this trend is the broad industrial demand for flexible and responsive automation systems that can work in tandem with human workers on a variety of activities, ranging from assembly to quality control. The emergence of collaborative robots as a wonderful opportunity to shape the future of work across numerous industries at a time when businesses are striving to optimize their operations and preserve a competitive edge is of great significance [26]- [29].…”
