Piezoceramic shunted damping concept: testing, modelling and correlation

Abstract: New laboratory tests are presented for the experimental evaluation and assessment of the piezoceramic shunted damping (PSD) concept for cantilever Aluminium thin (long) beams bonded symmetrically on their upper/lower surfaces with single pairs of small piezoceramic patches. Following these tests outcome, the PSD efficiency measure is proposed to be the so-called modal effective electromechanical coupling coefficient, which is post-processed from free-vibrations analyses under short-circuit and open-circuit ele… Show more

“…A piezoceramic shunted damping concept regarding testing, modeling and correlation on cantilever long beams, which are bonded with single pairs of small piezoceramic patches symmetrically on both surfaces, upper and lower, is presented in Chevallier et al (2009). Experimental results are used for the evaluation and the assessment of the shunted damping concept of the host structure.…”

“…It is seen that the resulting capacitances for the SP-PW and OP-SW pairs of piezoceramic patches correspond to the resulting capacitances of two capacitors connected, respectively, in parallel and series, see Chevallier et al (2009). For both configurations of the pairs of piezoceramic patches the vector w = Wk c (66) defines a resulting scalar measure of displacement u p of the pair of patches as u p = w T u (67) used in the following.…”

“…3, the EMCC may be wrong mainly for the uncoupled modes, see Table 1. This problem has been addressed in Chevallier et al [26] and [27]. It is possible to understand "graphically", on Fig.…”
